How About Eco Friendly Green Shoes?

Since I seem to be somewhat on a roll with eco friendly and green ideas, I'll continue along those lines for today.

I happened to come across the most ADORABLE line of "recycled" shoes. I guess "adorable' is not the word for the guys - but hey, there are shoes for men, women, and children - plus backpacks, and handbags. Even if these shoes were not earth friendly, I'd probably consider buying them anyway...they are SO cute!

This company says they are "Striving For 100% Sustainability." Now that feels pretty good, huh? Their motto is "Shoes For A Happy Planet." I like that.

OK. This company is called Simple Shoes...pretty fitting, wouldn't you say? (No pun intended) And simple they are!

Some of the materials that go into making Simple Shoes are:
*Bamboo
*Silk
*Hemp
*Coconut
*Wool
*Recycled inner tubes (for the insoles)
*Organic cotton
*Cork
*Recycled car tires (for the soles)

They have quite a selection, and lots of colors and variety. Feedback from users is all good...most are amazed at how comfortable they are.

If you happen to buy a pair, leave a comment for me that I can pass on...about comfort, style, durability, etc.

Eco Friendly Search Engine?

Well, today I got knocked down a notch or two. Thinking I knew everything there was to know about green living - and especially about simple energy saving tips (LOL)...imagine my surprise when my granddaughter called to tell me about Blackle. "Black what?" I said. "What are you talking about?" So, I immediately went to check it out. It is SO cool. And what a simple "in your face" idea.

Blackle is a search engine (powered by Google...HMM - nothing lost here) It uses a black screen to conserve energy.

According to Heap Media, creators of Blackle, there is a significant difference in energy consumption between black and white screens for CRT monitors. Their aim is to remind people of the need to take small steps every day to conserve energy.

When I checked it on May 4, 2009, it showed at the bottom of the screen that 1,218, 774,720 Watt hours have already been saved! That's huge.

Do your part. Spread the word - or spread this blog post. Make it your home page. Read the FAQ's, the About page, and the Tips. USE IT!
